Since 1982, Heil Sound has been the leading manufacturer of communications microphones and has a paramount understanding of phasing. The pattern control of the Heil PR 20 is outstanding. This exceptional performance is achieved by using the ideal combination of materials for the large low mass diaphragm and a special mixture of neodymium, iron, and boron that gives the PR 20 the strongest magnet structure available.

In addition to the special magnet structure, the PR 20 achieves its exceptional performance by using a large 1 1/8" low mass voice coil assembly. Special attention has been paid to the phasing plug assembly with equally placed ports that sense audio from behind, entering them out of phase. Thus, the PR 20 produces a very linear cardioid pattern and reduces the proximity effect while achieving perfect articulation. "I have put the AK-Type VII up as the shoulder drum mic replacing the vintage Gefell 582 Omni  “Glyn Johns style” and it works great! The 582 was the only one to capture the roar of the toms along with the openness of the kit too until now. This technique is my secret weapon which works on the AK-Type VII great. I've tried every type of mic and only a small diaphragm wide spectrum condenser works and is phase correct. Also I can say it's the best acoustic guitar mic in the world and even better than an original Telefunken KM 54 or KM 56 nickel cap/ tube mic. The versatile AVANTONE CK-40 Stereo Class A FET microphone features twin

LARGE 35mm center-terminated pressure gradient transducers. Their close physical

proximity places them in a tight vertical array to allow accurate stereo imaging

without phase issues arising. The top capsule/grill assembly rotates UP TO 180 degrees

relative to the lower capsule/grill assembly. This feature along with the multi-pattern independent selector choices allow for all stereo recording techniques to be utilized. (XY-Coincident / Blumlein, M-S)

The 2 sets of pad, pattern select  & LF rolloff switches independently control the

capsules. (Front switches control the lower fixed grill/capsule while the rear switches

control the upper rotating headgrill.)

The CK-40 operates on standard 48 volt phantom power and includes a 5-Pin mic

“...I was shocked at what I heard the first time I put up the CV-28. I was recording

George Doering and his army of acoustic guitars. My usual choices for these sessions

are my Neumann KM-54 and my Royer 121 active ribbon mic. The CV-28 had just

been delivered that afternoon, so we decided to put it up right next to the KM-54.

I initially plugged both mics into two channels of my Millenia mic pre, but at first listen

I thought it was a little too open and switched to a pair of API pres. Amazing! At first,

it was extremely difficult to hear a difference between the Neumann and the CV-28.

After a few minutes of listening, it felt like the Neumann was just slightly more refined,

but not so much that I preferred it to the CV-28 (remember that I'm comparing the 28

to one of the all-time great mics here!). Rather than make a decision right there, I just

recorded both mics. When it came time to mix, I was pleasantly surprised to find that

the CV-28 often times worked better than the Neumann...Well Done..."

The PR 28 is the premier drum microphone designed for toms, snares, bongo and many other applications The tight cardioid pattern with a wide frequency response and stellar rear rejection makes the PR 28 suitable for many other applications. A unique dual suspension systembetween the actual dynamic element and the grill and body reduce unwanted vibrations. The PR 28 has a frequency response of 55Hz - 18kHz (3dB rise @3500Hz). Since 1982, Heil Sound has been the leading manufacturer of communications microphones and has a paramount understanding of phasing. When properly applied, this knowledge creates outstanding cardioid patterns with unbelievable rear rejection that removes unwanted sounds that try to enter from the off axis rear. The pattern control of the Heil PR 30 is outstanding. This exceptional performance is achieved by using the ideal combination of materials for the large low mass diaphragm and a special mixture of neodymium, iron, and boron that gives the PR 30 the strongest magnet structure available. These features allow the microphone to achieve magnificent dynamic range. A unique screen system using two different diameter mesh screens and an internal breath blast filter allow the user to talk closely to the microphone with little worry of pops or excessive sibilance. The large diameter dynamic element is mounted in a unique Sorbothane © shock mount atop a non-resonant fixture, decoupling the element from the massive steel body. This body and the internal hum bucking coil removes any worry of using the PR 30 near monitor screens or noisy lighting fixtures and controls. The Heil HDK drum kit series is a culmination of over 2 years spent on the road with leading drummers. They gave us their ideas, their dreams and their needs which we turned into reality. Every component of a drum kit needs special attention when it comes to reproducing the sound accurately. There are many drum microphones out there but the artists that helped design the Heil drum microphones wanted more accuracy, not just level. Each one of them were tired of little plastic toys that did not reproduce well. They all agreed, after hearing and using the new technologies of the Heil drum microphones, that they had never heard this level of quality reproduction.

The PR 48 kick drum microphone starts with our 1.5" large diaphragm dynamic element sealed in a vulcanized shock mount and fed with a specially designed low pass filter that creates a 10 dB rise from 60 to 100 Hz. - right where the kick drum resonates. We then stay out to 7.5 kHz and drop off drastically to eliminate any unwanted internal sounds. The total frequency reponse is 30Hz - 8.5kHz. Its rear rejection is -40dB @ 180° off axis. It can handle +148dB SPL.

The PR 48 metal housing was designed with a slanted entrance to the 3 pin XLR so the cable assembly is easier to connect. The microphone provides a 600 ohm balanced output.

The fun part of The Fin® is the four blue L.E.D. lights mounted inside. These can only be illuminated when using The Fin® into one of the 3 pin balanced XLR inputs of a professional mixing console that supplies a + 48 volt d.c. phantom voltage down the balanced mic line.

Standard 5/8" - 27 microphone stand threads allow The Fin® to be mounted on booms or floor stands.

The Fin® is terrific for vocals, instrument amplifiers, harmonica, and speech, and puts the fun back into the dynamic microphone.
